WHKY: Gryphons Fall 3-1 on the Road versus Queen's

KINGSTON, Ont. – Saturday afternoon in Kingston, the Gryphons women's hockey team suffered a 3-1 road loss to the Queen's Gaels. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 1-3-0 on the season while Queen's improves to 3-0-1.

After getting off to a slow start, which had the Gryphons trailing 2-0 after the 1st period of play, the Gryphons would step up their play over the final 40 minutes. Fifth year forward Kelly Gribbons would fire one into the top corner midway through the 2nd period to make it a 2-1 game. A sprawling pad save by Valerie Lamenta later in the period would keep it a one-goal game heading to the 3rd.

Lamenta, who turned away 30 of the 32 shots sent her way, was at it again in the final frame, turning away several great scoring chances from the Gaels to keep the Gryphs within striking distance. The Gryphons were able to apply plenty of great pressure late but were never able to find the equalizer as the Gaels would add an empty net goal with :12 seconds left to seal the win.

The Gryphons will now look to get back on the winning ways with a home game on Friday (Nov. 3) versus the Windsor Lancers.
