OTTAWA, ON - Two nights. Against the top two teams in the country. Weekend road trips don't come any more difficult than that. One night after suffering a loss at No. 1-ranked Carleton, the Gryphons men's basketball team made the short trip to the University of Ottawa to face the No. 2-ranked Gee-Gees. Ottawa shot an impressive 55% from the floor as a team and handed the Gryphons an 85-68 loss. With the result, the Gryphs fall to 3-9 on the season while the Gee-Gees improve to 11-1.
The Gryphons trailed by 10 at halftime, but Ottawa opened the 3rd quarter with a 15-6 run to push their lead to 19 and wouldn't look back from there. Fourth year guard
Taylor Boers led all scorers for the Gryphs, coming off the bench to pour in 13 points.
Daniel Dooley had 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting while
Jonathan Wallace had 11 points and 6 rebounds.
The Gryphons have now lost six straight games but remain tied with Lakehead for the third and final playoff spot in the OUA's Central Division, with the Gryphs also having a game-in-hand on Lakehead. The Gryphons now return home for a back-to-back games next weekend (Jan. 28 & 29). Friday night, the Gryphs will face Algoma (4-9) before turning around and hosting division rivals Brock (7-4) on Saturday.
