GUELPH, ON - The Gryphons baseball team was swept on Sunday in a doubleheader with the Laurier Golden Hawks at Hastings Field. The Gryphons comeback fell short in Game 1, which Laurier won 10-5, while in Game 2 the Golden Hawks prevailed 3-1. The Gryphons now sit at 2-2 on the season while Laurier improves to 3-1.
The Gryphons comeback attempt fell short in Game 1. After falling behind 8-0, the Gryphons stormed back with one in the 7th and four more in the 8th to make things interesting. Rookie catcher
Evan Britt (London, ON) had his first two hits at the OUA level as part of that comeback, but the Gryphons would ultimately fall short losing 10-5. Newcomer
Robert Wilson took the loss for the Gryphon in what was his first start in the red, black and gold. Wilson, an NCAA transfer from Niagara University, allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs over 4.2 IP.Â
In Game 2, the Gryphons received a nice effort from
Nicholas Interisano who not only had a pair of hits in the game, but who also came on to pitch 2-plus innings of effective relief. It was part of a strong performance from the Gryphon bullpen which also saw second year reliever
Jordon Inkol get out of a bases loaded jam in the 6th to keep the Gryphons in it. Starter Liam Rivard took the loss in his first start of the season.
The Gryphons (2-2) travel to Waterloo for a doubleheader with the Warriors (2-2) on Saturday, Sept. 17 (12pm & 4pm). On Sunday, Sept. 18, the Gryphons are back home at Hastings Field hosting the Ryerson Rams (1-3).
