The Department of Athletics is proud to announce Beth Fisher as the recipient of the inaugural Tom Kendall Staff Development Award.
This award will be presented annually to a staff member who epitomizes professionalism and who goes above and beyond in support of staff and / or student success and development. The award is named in honour of Tom Kendall who from 2004-2015 served as the Director of Athletics. In this role, Tom committed passion, time, and resources toward staff development.
In her role as the Aquatics and Recreation Supervisor, Beth has continuously excelled in her seven years with the Department. She displays constant professionalism in her day-to-day role engaging with a wide range of customers across the campus and community of Guelph. Outside of her traditional service delivery she is always looking at ways to improve her training and the department's technical services.
In addition to the technical skill training that she provides for our students she displays a genuine interest in their development as student leaders. Said best by her Head Lifeguard, Alex Labaj "Beth is a mentor, a motivator, a leader, a therapist at times and an excellent role model. She's given us a welcoming environment to work in where she's taught us to be professional, the importance of customer satisfaction and how to maintain the appearance of the facility."
Carrying around Gryphon pride at all times and an eagerness to be involved, Beth's most recent contribution included a dip in the Polar Plunge to promote the Special Olympics which took place on campus this summer.
"Beth's internal impact to the Department and major initiatives she has spearheaded are invaluable. She has provided unparalleled leadership to her student staff, and with her support has set up a platform for success for each of them," said Dave Trudelle, Manager of Fitness and Recreation.
This award will be given out yearly to a Department of Athletics Staff member who displays professionalism, mentorship, Gryphon pride and has made a contribution or enhancement to Athletics.
