ST. CATHARINES, ON – Every team strives to enter the postseason with some momentum. The No. 1-ranked Gryphons certainly have that as they will take an 11-game win streak into the playoffs following a 3-2 victory over Brock on Saturday afternoon in St. Catharines. With the result, the Gryphons finish the regular season with a record of 17-4-2-1 (wins-OT wins-losses-OT losses) and finish first in the OUA standings, 13 points ahead of second place Toronto.
Trailing 1-0 late in the second period, the Gryphons tied the game at 1-1 thanks to third year forward
Kelly Gribbons (Port Elgin, ON) who scored her 10th goal of the season. Gribbons finished the regular season in a tie for second amongst the team's leading scorers with 23 points in 24 games.
Despite the fact that the Brock Badgers will not be playing postseason hockey, as they finished ninth in the OUA standings and only the top eight teams make playoffs, they were nevertheless giving the No. 1-ranked team in Canada all they could handle as they took a 2-1 lead heading to a third period after scoring with 37 seconds left in the second.
The Gryphons would respond in the final period when Gribbons scored her second of the game and her fourth in her last four games to tie it at 2-2. The game-winning goal would come from second year winger
Kaitlin Lowy, coming with just under seven minutes remaining and lifting the Gryphons to a 3-2 victory over Brock.
