MBB: Dooley's career-high 22 points come in loss at Laurier

WATERLOO, ON – Friday night at Wilfrid Laurier University, the Gryphons men's basketball team lost 102-91 to the Golden Hawks. Gryphons third year guard Daniel Dooley (Burlington, ON) finished with a career-high 22 points in the loss. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 6-8 on the season while Laurier improves to 7-9.

The Gryphons led 26-23 after the opening quarter of play but would be outscored by 17 points over the course of the next two quarters. The Golden Hawks were on fire from beyond the arc, going 12-of-21 (57%) from three point range to lift them to a 102-91 victory. Leading the way for Laurier was Owen Coulthard who poured in 29 points off the bench on an impressive 10-of-12 shooting from the field. Coulthard was a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc.

The Gryphons had several impressive offensive performances themselves, led by Dooley's career-high 22 points which came on 10-of-17 shooting. Dooley also hauled in 7 rebounds to go along with 3 assists in one of his best performances of the season. Fellow third year guard Drew Walford also recorded a career-high in points with 19. Walford was nearly perfect from the floor, finishing the night 9-of-10 shooting. Jack Beatty came off the bench to pick up his second double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jonathan Wallace also scored in double figures for the Gryphons, finishing with 14 points thanks to a perfect 10-for-10 performance from the free throw line.

The Gryphons, who allowed Laurier to score 35 points in the third quarter, will look to tighten up defensively while continuing to produce at the offensive end when they travel to the University of Waterloo on Saturday night to face the 1-15 Warriors.
