BURLINGTON, ON - On Tuesday, November 8, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced the conference's All-Rookie Team for the 2016 OUA Football season. A pair of Gryphons received All-Rookie honours with receiver
Kian Schaffer-Baker and offensive lineman
Coulter Woodmansey both earning a spot on the OUA All-Rookie Team.
Schaffer-Baker, a first year receiver from Mississauga, burst onto the scene in 2016 and led the Gryphons in receiving yards during the regular season with 388 yards on 20 receptions. In his first game at the university level, Schaffer-Baker hauled in 91 yards receiving on just 3 receptions in a 41-22 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues. Schaffer-Baker, who scored his first career OUA touchdown on the road against the Laurier Golden Hawks in Week 8, showcased his big-play ability throughout the course of the season and promised to be a fixture in the Gryphons passing attack for years to come.
Coulter Woodmansey, a 6-foot-5, 325 pound rookie from Toronto, earned a dress spot and playing time on a regular basis as a freshman, working his way into several of the Gryphons offensive packages. Coulter, who is described by head coach Kevin MacNeill as a hard-working, physical player, got his first start of the season in Week 8 versus Laurier and is expected to compete for a starting spot at guard heading into the 2017 season.
