THUNDER BAY, ON - The Gryphons completed a sweep of their doubleheader with Lakehead, winning 6-3 on Saturday night in Thunder Bay. The Gryphons, who also beat Lakehead on Friday night, improve to 7-7-0 on the season while Lakehead falls to 6-6-1.
One night after scoring a season-high eight goals, the Gryphons found themselves trailing 2-0 midway through the 2nd period to the Lakehead on Saturday night. After
Michael Stevens made it a 2-1 game,
Rob Lepine would produce a terrific individual effort, undressing a trio of Lakehead defenders before firing a shot on net.
Trevor Morbeck was right there to pot the rebound from Lepine's initial shot as the Gryphons and Thunderwolves were tied at 2-2 heading to the 3rd.
In the final period,
Manny Gialedakis gave the Gryphons a 3-2 lead, and back-to-back goals from Lepine pushed the lead to 5-2. Lakehead made it a 5-3 game but Cody Thompson's empty netter capped an impressive weekend road trip for the Gryphs.
Five different Gryphon players recorded multi-point nights, with Rob Lepine (2 G, 1 A) and
Cody Thompson (1 G, 2 A) each recording 3-point nights.Â
The next three games for the Gryphons will be played on home ice, beginning with a matchup with the Nipissing Lakers on Friday, November 25th.
