WATERLOO, ON - Friday night at the Waterloo Recreation Complex, the Gryphons men's hockey team suffered their first loss of the 2016-17 season, falling 5-1 to the Laurier Golden Hawks. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 2-1-0 on the young season while Laurier improves to 2-1-0.

The Gryphons jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the game on a goal from veteran defenceman Mark Raycroft. The Golden Hawks would go on to score five unanswered goals with two in the 1st, two in the 2nd and one in the 3rd to claim a 5-1 victory.

The Gryphons outshot the Hawks 32-27 on the night, including 14-4 in the final period. Scott Stajcer took the loss in net for the Gryphs who will be right back in action on Saturday night on home ice against the 1-2 Brock Badgers.
