Box Score Guelph, ON – The Gryphons Women's Soccer team (2-0-0) are off to a flying start to their 2015 OUA regular season thanks to a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Gryphon

Soccer Complex over the visiting Waterloo Warriors (0-1-1).
One day after earning a 1-0 victory over Windsor, the Gryphons were able to carry that momentum into their match on Sunday and jumped out to an early lead in the 9
th minute with a goal from Niagara Falls native Krista Lopoyda. Following a turnover by the Warriors, Lopoyda alertly recognized that the Waterloo keeper was well off her line, and showed great technique to loft a long shot over her head and in.
In the 34
th minute, the Gryphons would extend their lead to 2-0 as Lopoyda would score her second goal of the match. Once again, the Gryphons were able to create by way of a counter-attack.
Kristina Strojin (St. Catherines, ON) made a powerful run and was able to penetrate Waterloo's back line before laying off to Lopoyda for a tap-in. The Warriors were able to cut into the lead with a goal of their own in the 38
th minute off a wide free kick that was confidently headed in by Paula Rau. But Guelph's two goal lead would be instantly restored thanks to a excellent effort from Sara Van Den Akker. Her goal in the 39
th minute gave Guelph a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, rookie forward Hayley Howes would score her second goal of the weekend with a strike in the 54
th minute to push the Gryphons lead to 4-1. Much like she did the previous day against Windsor, Hayley was able to pounce on a through ball and overpower the centre back to earn a one-on-one with the keeper before calmly placing the ball into the back of the net. The Gryphons would go on to win the match by a 4-1 final and have now earned six points through two games. They will be in action again on Wednesday, Sept. 2
nd when they travel to London to face the Western Mustangs with kickoff set for 8:15pm.
That game will be a re-match of last year's OUA quarterfinal which the Mustangs won in extra time.
