WHKY: Gryphons wrap up regular season with win over Laurentian

Box Score
Sudbury, ON – The Gryphons women's hockey team won 3-1 over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday afternoon in Sudbury in what was the final regular season game of the OUA schedule.  The Gryphons finish the regular season with a record of 18-3-3, good for second place in the conference.  Laurentian drops to 3-16-5 and will not participate in the postseason after finishing 12th in the 13-team league.

After a scoreless opening period, Averi Nooren opened the scoring for the Gryphons in the second period with her ninth goal of the season.  After Laurentian tied it at 1-1, the Gryphons would re-take the lead on Katie Mora's team-leading 10th goal of the season as Guelph took a 2-1 lead to the final period.

Brittany St. James would provide some insurance late in the third period to make it 3-1 Gryphons.  Rookie goalie Valerie Lamenta turned away 25 of the 26 shots sent her way to earn the win.

The Gryphons now enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed in the OUA and will host seventh seeded Ryerson.  Details regarding the game times and schedule for that playoff series to follow shortly.
