WHKY: Gryphons clinch 2nd in OUA with win over Nipissing

Box Score
North Bay, ON – A goal from fifth year captain Katie Mora mid-way through the third period would prove to be the only goal of the game as the Gryphons women's hockey team won 1-0 over the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday afternoon in North Bay.  With the win, the Gryphons clinch second place in the OUA standings.  Steph Nehring turned away all 20 shots sent her way to record her fourth shutout of the season.  With the win, the Gryphons improve to 17-3-3 while Nipissing falls to 12-9-3.

The Gryphons have received great goaltending all season long and Saturday was no different as Stephanie Nehring was her usual self between the pipes for the Gryphs.  In the opening period, Nipissing would out-shoot the Gryphons 12-1 but the game remained scoreless thanks to some strong play by Nehring.

After a scoreless second period, Kaitlyn Mora would finally open the scoring in the third period with her team-leading ninth goal of the season with assists to Averi Nooren and Kaitlin Lowy on the play.

With the win, the Gryphons clinch sole possession of second place in the OUA standings and will face seventh seeded Ryerson in the opening round of the playoffs.  But first, Guelph will wrap up their regular season schedule on Sunday, February 15th in Sudbury when they take on Laurentian (3-14-5).
