Box Score North Bay, ON. The Women's Hockey team travelled up north to play Nipissing on Saturday night and came away with a 3-2 overtime win. This was the first time the Gryphons took the ice since being ranked 1st in the CIS. After a scoreless first frame,
Leigh Shilton opened the scoring at 1:31 in the second period with assists going to
Kelly Gribbons and
Meagan Lee. The lead was shortlived as Nipissing tied it up at 8:57. The Gryphons went out in front again on the power play at 15:49 in the second with
Christine Grant finding the back of the net. Assists were awarded to
Averi Nooren and
Katherine Bailey on the play.
Nipissing tied it up early in the third period, but the rest of the game would not settle a winner. The Gryphons proved to be ready to go in overtime as they scored 0:40 into the extra period. The goal was scored by
Jessica Pinkerton and assisted by
Kaitlin Lowy. A key to the Gryphons win was the disciplined play by Guelph, only allowing Nipissing to have two power plays the whole game.
Valerie Lamenta made 22 saves in the win. The Gryphons now face Laurentian on Sunday afternoon at Countryside Arena.
