Toronto, ON - Saturday night in Toronto the Gryphons Men's Volleyball team lost 3-sets-to-1 to the Ryerson Rams. Set scores were 21-25, 24-26, 25-22, 16-25. In the first set, the Gryphons temporarily silenced the crowd at the Rams home opener by rallying to take a 16-14 lead at the technical timeout. However, Ryerson would put together a rally of their own out of the timeout to take the opening set 21-25. In the second set, a Ryerson player entered the game but was wearing a different number than what was listed on the game sheet. As a result, the Rams were docked two points for the illegal substitution, keeping the second set alive for the Gryphons. Despite the mix up, Ryerson was able to hold on and take a competitive second set 24-26. In the third set, just like the first two, the Gryphons would find themselves leading at the technical timeout. This time, they would also finish the set strong, taking it 25-22 to get back into the match down 2-sets-to-1. Unfortunately, they were unable to carry that momentum in the fourth set which Ryerson won easily 16-25.
Zach Newman led the Gryphons with a team-high 10 kills followed closely by
Josh Green with 9.
With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 0-2 on the season and will look to get into the win column on Friday, October 30 when they return home to face the Western Mustangs.
