WBB: Gryphons Defeat U.B.C. in Opening Game of Ryerson Preseason Tournament


Toronto, ON - Friday in Toronto, the Gryphons won 65-55 over the UBC Thunderbirds in their opening game of the 28th Annual Darcel Wright Memorial Classic tournament hosted by the Ryerson Rams.
  With starting point guard Bridget Atkinson sitting this one out with an injury, fifth year senior guard Barbara Inrig-Pieterse (London, ON) stepped up and did a great job running the point for the Gryphons. Inrig-Pieterse finished with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. In the post, Kate MacTavish (Waterloo, ON) was dominant, pouring in 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds. The Gryphons were able to limit UBC to 36% shooting and held them to just 6 points in the 2nd quarter.

  With the win, the Gryphons will now face McMaster on Saturday at 5pm with the winner advancing to the gold medal game on Sunday.
