Guelph, Ont. – On Tuesday (Oct. 28, 2014) Ontario University Athletics (OUA) released its list of All-Stars and major award winners for men's soccer. Three Gryphons were named All-Stars, while another took home the West Division's Rookie of the Year.
Striker
Jared Agyemang (Brampton, Ont.) put together one of the most impressive goal scoring seasons in Gryphon history. Agyemang was named to the First Team All-Star as a striker after leading the OUA with 16 goals during the regular season.
While Agyemang was stealing the spotlight up front, the Gryphons were led at the back by captain
Justin Springer (Burlington, Ont.). Springer was also named to the First Team for a second consecutive year after another solid year in the centre of the Gryphon defence.
Agyemang would not have scored so many goals without some of the great service he received from senior
Timothy Flynn (Scarborough, Ont.). Flynn, a First Team All-Star in 2013, was named to the Second Team in 2014 after yet another impressive season in which his creativity and play-making ability proved crucial for the Gryphon attack.
While the Gryphons lose Flynn to graduation, the future remains bright with
Ryan Vyrostko (Waterloo, Ont.) taking home the West Division Rookie of the Year award. The Gryphons received strong defensive support from the first year centre midfielder, who figures to factor into the Gryphons starting 11 for several years to come.
