Gryphons shutout Golden Hawks 102-0 in OUA Quarterfinals

Guelph, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphon women's rugby team dominated the Laurier Golden Hawks with an impressive 102-0 finish to their OUA quarterfinal game on Friday (Oct. 10) evening at Varsity Field. The Gryphons will advance to the OUA semifinals, stay tuned to gryphons.ca for all playoff details.
  11964 Alex King Accurate passes and aggressive runs had the Guelph Gryphons on the board in the first minute of the game with a successful try, making it 5-0. Laurier was able to gain possession of the ball in the first half, but bad passes and hard tackles would have the Golden Hawks giving up the ball in a ruck.

Alexandra King led the Gryphons in scoring with an impressie 17 points in kicking and then an additional 10 points in tries. 
 
The Gryphon would continue to dominate possession throughout the entire first half, with Laurier constantly turning over the ball, giving the Gryphons another opportunity to put together a scoring drive. The Golden Hawks would gain momentum defensively towards the end of the first half, but the Gryphons would continue to find the sidelines and dominate the end zone. At the end of the first half the Gryphons would put up even tries and two successful conversions to make it 39-0 heading into the break.
 
The Gryphons would storm back out onto the field in the second half scoring two quick tries and two successful conversions early in the second half to make it 53-0 in the first ten minutes. Laurier would not gain any momentum and would find it difficult to keep the Gryphons contained. In the second half, the Gryphons would score ten tries and nine conversions for a final score of 102-0.
 

Devon Stober (Mississauga, Ont.) scored three tries while Kelsey Gsell (Saskatoon, SK) and Emily Samak (Hamilton, Ont.) each scored two tires. Brittany Priddle, Kylie Shaughnessy, Chloe Runge, Jennifer Dunn, Samantha Roy, Rita Charest-Pekeski, Bronwyn McCrone and Breeann Keogh-Chin all scored one try each.
