GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team were defeated by the UOIT Ridgebacks at the Gryphon Soccer Complex on Sunday 2-1. The loss pushes the Gryphons to 5-3-0 on the season while the Ridgeback's improve to 2-4-2.

The game was closely contested with chances from both sides. Gryphon midfielder Courtney Whiteside  opened the scoring in the first half with a beautiful kick from just outside the box. The Ridgeback's evened the score on a penalty kick due to a handball inside the box in the 26th minute. Despite the tie at half the Gryphons peppered the Ridgeback's keeper, outshooting UOIT 8-3.

The Ridgebacks took the lead in the second half after a back and forth start. Gryphon coach Randy Ragan made three substitutions to try and provide some offense. The Gryphons pushed the pace, consistently playing in the Ridgeback's end.

Gryphon goalie Alex King was kept busy in the second half, making seven saves.
There was a mad flurry in the opposition's box in the dying moments of the game but unfortunately the Gryphon's could not put the ball in the net. The game ended in a 2-1 defeat for Guelph.

The Gryphons look to win their next contest on Wednesday as they play the Waterloo Warriors. The game will again take place at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
