Gryphons post dominant 38-12 win over Toronto

The Guelph Gryphons didn't miss a beat after a bye last week, returning to play today to defeat the Toronto Varsity Blues 38-12 in a national television game on SportsNet.
 
The No. 7 Gryphons move to 3-0 on the season while the Varsity Blues drop to 1-3.
 
After a slow start in the first quarter finishing with a 7-3 lead. The Gryphons exploded in the second quarter to lead at the half 21-3. The team didn't stop there putting up another 12 points before the end of the game.
 
Third-year quarterback Jazz Lindsey was named the Porter player of the game, going 21-of-34 for 297 yards and four touchdowns. His brother, Saxon Lindsey  led all players with nine catches for 108 yards and two majors. The two brothers connected for the first two scores of the game to get the Gryphons rolling after a slow start in the first quarter.

Rookie running back Bryson Wishloff-Dobush recorded a team-high 74 rushing yards on 11 carries, while sophomore defensive lineman Ian Marouf led the Gryphons with five tackles and two sacks in the win.
 
Toronto's Trevor Harvey opened the game with a 71-yard kick return and rookie kicker Eric Hewitson (Cambridge) kicked a 41-yard field goal to give U of T an early 3-0 lead.
 
Guelph got on the board late in the first as Jazz connected a 12-yard pass with Saxon to cap off a four-play, 44-yard drive. The Gryphons led 7-3 after 15 minutes. Saxon notched his second major of the game nine minutes into the second quarter and rookie running back Johnny Augustine (Welland, Ont.) added a one-yard rushing touchdown two minutes later as Guelph built a 21-3 lead heading into halftime.
 
Fifth-year veteran receiver Dillon Dimitroff padded Guelph's lead on the first drive of the third quarter with an eight-yard touchdown reception and the Gryphons held onto a 28-5 advantage heading into the final frame.
 
Third-year kicker Daniel Ferraro added a career-high 47-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and Wishloff-Dobush caught a Lindsey pitch for a 17-yard major.
 
The Blues ended the game on a high note as third-year returner Kevin Bradfield (Toronto) came up with a huge 97-yard punt return for the lone Toronto touchdown of the contest.
 
Toronto was led by third-year running back Aaron Milton (Whitby, Ont.) who notched a game-high 90 yards on 13 carries, while linebacker Chris Johnson (Toronto) led all players with seven tackles and one sack and was named the Varsity Blues player of the game for his efforts. Dylan Gordon added six tackles and one sack on the day.
  
The Gryphons return to Alumni Stadium next Saturday (Sept. 21) when host the McMaster Marauders for their Homecoming game. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
