Gryphons defeat Rams in Exhibition Action

The Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team defeated the Ryerson Rams very convincingly in Wednesday nights Baden Klein Cup at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

The Gryphons started the game strongly but could not convert their good play into goals, however, a six minute spell just before half time saw the Gryphons score four goals. Rookie defender Stephen Veenema scored the opening goal when he headed in a corner for his first Gryphon goal, this goal was quickly followed by a great header from Mohammed Heydarpour after a brilliant Gryphon passing move.

Tim Flynn increased the Gryphon lead before Justin Springer closed out the scoring with another headed goal from a corner.

The second half saw many changes in personnel but the Gryphons continued with some great play with rookie striker Jamie Wilcock coming the closest to adding to the score when he hit the crossbar.

The Gryphons now travel to Montreal and Ottawa for more pre-season action.  On Friday they will play UNBC from British Columbia at 6 pm at the university of Montreal.
