Gryphons remain undefeated with 33-7 win over York under the lights of Alumni Stadium

Guelph, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons continued their undefeated season with a 33-7 win over the York Lions in Guelph's Friday Night Lights game at Alumni Stadium.
 
Guelph's sixth straight win of the season keeps them atop the OUA standings while York drops to 2-4 on the season. The victory also marked Guelph's 13th consecutive regular season victory.
 
Rob Farquharson had an impressive game with a total of 129 yards, averaging 6.4 yards on each run and a long of 21 yards. Alex Charette led the receivers with a total of 70 yards and had a total of 88 yards on kick returns with a huge 61-yard long.
 
Dillon Dimitroff  made an impact late in the fourth quarter with 92-yard reception that would set the Gryphons up for their final touchdown of the night.
 
Jazz Lindsey was 17-for-30 with one interception and a total of 296 yards. Lindsey also had 36 yards rushing with his longest run being 15 yards.
 
The Gryphons scored two touchdowns in the first half against the York Lions. The first scoring drive started on the 38-yard line with a big 11-yard run by Rob Farquharson, getting the Gryphons a first down. Farquharson picked up another 8 yards right after for a second and two. A big pass to Ryan Nieuwesteeg ut them on the 11-yard line after he was forced out of bounds. A complete pass to Saxon Lindsey at the Gryphons up to 10-0, after a successful 30-yard field goal attempt by Daniel Ferraro earlier in the game.
 
The second touchdown drive started with a faked punt in the second quarter, which had Michael Carney run the ball up 31 yards for the Gryphons. A hand off to Farquharson put Guelph just shy of the York end zone. Luke Nangle took to the field and ran it in himself for a touchdown, making the score 18-0 for the Gryphons after a rouge point by Ferraro earlier in the second quarter.

The Gryphons continued their defensive dominance into the second half of the game, with York conceding a safety and putting  the score up to 20-0 for Guelph. York finally put some points on the board in the fourth quarter after an interception by Lion's player Cory Bellerdine (Orleans, Ont.) set the Lions up for a touchdown drive. Errol Brooks (Toronto, Ont.) ran the ball in for the York Lions making it 20-7 late in the game. Rob Farquharson would run the ball in two more times for Guelph, with Ferraro successfully getting the ball through the uprights to bring the final score to 33-7.  
The defensive players made an impact on the game successfully stopping the Lions on six consecutive touchdown attempts inside of the 5-yard line. Mackenzie Myers led the defense with six unassisted tackles and two assisted tackles. Ian Marouf  and Taylor Palmer  were close behind with five unassisted and two assisted tackles each.
 
The Guelph Gryphons take the field again against the Carleton Ravens in Ottawa on Friday, October 11th with kick-off set for 7 p.m.
