The Gryphon women's hockey team won their second game of the weekend this afternoon (Jan.15) in a convincing 4-0 win over the Lancers at the Gryphon Centre.

The win advances the Gryphons to 14-3-1, while the loss drops the Lancers to 9-7-2 in the OUA standings.

The Gryphons outplayed their opponents the entire game and opened the scoring at 7:31 in the first period. Erin Small (Pickering, ON) flanked by Kaitlyn Mora (Guelph, ON) charged down the ice toward the Windsor zone ready to attack. The pair was met by one loan Lancer, whom Small was effortlessly able to deke out, and notched one on the back of the Lancer net to take a 1-0 lead.

The Lancers attempted to rally back while on the power play, but couldn't leverage their two-man advantage to get on the scoreboard.

The Gryphons didn't waste anytime in the second period. Jenna Lanzarotta (Mississauga, ON) roofed one from a behind the net pass from Jessica Pinkerton (Oshawa, ON) and Brittney Crawford (Guelph, ON) at 3:01. Less than 10 minutes later, Mora put another one in the back of the Lancers net to advance the score to 3-0, assisted by Small and Tamara Bell (Guelph, ON).

The third period was a scrappy one, and Guelph was able to use their two-man advantage to score their final marker of the game. With help from Crawford and Michelle Sabourin (Pickering, ON) Bell, faced with a wide open net, fired one in to round out the scoring at 17:46.

The Gryphons would walk away with a convincing 4-0 win over the Lancers.

Nehring played a solid game, registering 29 saves and earning her first shutout of the season.

The Gryphons will hit the road Friday, January 17 to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks at 7:30 p.m.
