Gryphons fall to York Lions 2-0

On Saturday afternoon the Gryphons dropped a 2-0 game to the York Lions at York Stadium. The Gryphons fell to 0-3-1 on the season.

When the two teams took the pitch the Gryphons met the Lions with intensity. The Gryphons charged hard from the outset as they tried to penetrate the Lions defensive wall, but York's swarming defence easily repelled the attacks.

At halftime the score remained tied at 0-0.

The Lions kept up the pressure and in the 60th minute Nicole Markowitz pounded back the first goal of the match in the top left corner of the net, giving York a 1-0 lead.

The game continued to be tight in the second half, but the Lions kept spirits up with superior handling of the ball and in the 81st minute, Shannon Wood scored the second goal of the match bringing the final score to 2-0.

The Gryphons now have a busy week ahead with three games. Guelph will first host the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
