LONDON, Ont. – The Gryphon women's lacrosse team fell short 10-7 in their season opener this afternoon (Sept. 17) to the two-time OUA finalists, the Mustangs.
The women's lacrosse team drops to 0-1-0, while the Mustangs advance to 1-0-0.
The Gryphons played hard on defence, holding the Mustangs to just two goals in the second half with strong play by the entire team. The Gryphons attack managed to settle, and outscored the Mustangs 5-2 in the second half; however, it was not enough to defeat the Mustangs.
Victoria Marshall (Holland Landing, Ont.) gave a solid goaltending effort, while freshman Katelynn Brzezinski (Orangeville, Ont.) was named the outstanding player for the game.
Dana Skyvington (Mississauga, Ont.) earned a pair of goals, while Amy Johnson (Ajax, Ont.), Alyssa Nevills (Orangeville, Ont.), Jade Sullivan (Ennismore, Ont.), Breanne Gillie (Dundas, Ont.) and Staci Morris (Brampton, Ont.) each contributed one.
The Gryphons hit the road again tomorrow (Sept. 18) to take on the Varsity Blues at 11:00 a.m.
