MEN'S SOCCER - Gryphons win 3-0 over Brock
GUELPH, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphon men's soccer team defeated the Brock Badgers 3-0 this afternoon (Sept. 11) at the new Gryphon Soccer Complex in Guelph. The Gryphons earned goals from
Dena Iezady(Richmond Hill, ON) and a pair from
Robert Murphy (Ottawa, ON).
The men's soccer team advances to 3-1-0, while the Badgers drop to 1-4-0.
The Gryphons came out strong during the first half as they pushed themselves into Brock's end and maintained good communication across the field. The first goal came only nine minutes into the first half after
Timothy Flynn (Scarborough, ON) sent the perfect assist to Iezady who ripped it right into the net. Murphy and Iezady had multiple shots on net throughout the first half and Gryphon goal-keep
Chad Paparoni (Burlington, ON) consistently made amazing saves.
Brenden Springer (Burlington, ON) helped lead the second half for the Gryphons as he kept the ball in Brock's end and consistently shut down Badger attacks. It paid off when Murphy was able to break away from the crowd and fired the Gryphon's second goal 74 minutes into the game. Not long after Murphy secured the Gryphon's lead with his second goal only seven minutes left in the half. The Gryphons finished the match with a strong 3-0 win.
The Gryphons next play the York Lions on September 17
th in York. The game begins at 3:15pm.
