The Guelph Gryphons are very pleased to announce that James Gillingham will be joining the men's basketball team coaching staff for the 2011-12 season as an assistant coach.
Gillingham returns to his hometown of Guelph after playing professional basketball for the TBB Trier basketball team in the Bundesligna league in Germany for the past six years (2
004-2010).
"I am thrilled to announce that James Gillingham will be joining our coaching staff," said Guelph men's basketball head coach Chris O'Rourke. "He's an outstanding young man with a resume that speaks for itself. He will bring a great deal to this program from player development to recruiting. I have known James for over twenty years and seen him grow into a great basketball player but more importantly a great person."
During his five-year high school career at St. James in Guelph he won OFSAA 'AAA" gold in 1999 and OFSAA 'AAA' bronze in 1998. During the1999 season he was voted 'Top Guard' at the Nike All-Canada Camp, named to the Canadian High School First Team and played on the Young Men's Canadian National Team.
After high school he played in the NCAA for Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois from 2
000-2004. He was named to the Missouri Valley First Team All Defence / Second Team All Conference in 2002-03 and 2003-04. In 2003-04 he was also named to the NCAA All-Canadian Team and has been voted as one of the "Top 150 Best Canadian Basketball Players of All-Time."
