Gryphons Trounce Lady Vees , 80-37

The Guelph Gryphon women's basketball team traveled to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Lady Vees tonight (Dec. 2) at the Ben Avey Gym. The Gryphons proved to be too much to handle, and trounced their opponents 80-37.
 
The win improves the Gryphons record to 3-4 while the Lady Vees drop to 2-5.
 
Laurentian came out strong with a good zone and press and were able to keep it close for the first few minutes; however, early in the first quarter, the Gryphons broke the press and figured out the Lady Vees zone. The Gryphons led17-8 after the first quarter.
 
The Gryphons stepped up their defense in the second quarter causing the Lady Vees to turn the ball over, leading to easy fast break points for the Gryphons. The Gryphons took control of the game, stepping up the tempo forcing the Lady Vees to contiune to turn the ball over. The Lady Vees began to gain some momentum going into the half and only trailed by 12, with the score 34-22. 
 
Guelph came out shooting in the third quarter and was able to extend the lead, and the Lady Vees had no answer for the hot shooting Gryphons. The Gryphons were just too much tonight for the Lady Vees as they shot 46.6% from the floor whereas the Lady Vees only shot 23.1%.
 
The Gryphons will travel to Toronto tomorrow (Dec. 3) to take on the York Lions in their final contest before the Christmas break. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
