Gryphon Women's Lacrosse go 2 - 1 for the Thanksgiving Weekend
The Gryphon women met the Mauraders for the first time this season and came out on top with a 12 - 6 win.Â
Getting off to what seems to be the Gryphons typical 'slow start', netminder and player of the game,
Linnaea Jasiuk made some key saves to keep the Gryphons in the game early on. Strong midfield play and solid defense were key elements in the win over McMaster. Once the Gryphon offense settled into the game they were unstoppable.Â
Leading in scoring was Rookie attack
Katelyn Cartwright with three. Captains
Stacey Pogue and
Dana Skyvington contributed two each as did veteran player
Amy Johnson.Â
Staci Morris, Jade Sullivan and
Breanne Gillie notched one each for the Gryphon win.

The next match of the weekend proved to be a bit of nail biter for the Gryphon fans. Facing the Golden Gaels for the second time this season, both teams eager for a win after the 9-9 split in their first match up, the Gryphons were victorious with a 10 - 9 win.Â
Taking the Gaels by surprise and scoring first, the Gryphons notched a goal 30 seconds into the game. After trading the first few goals, the Gaels came on strong scoring four quick goals to pull ahead of the Gryphons by four goals. The Gryphons, determined to finish the half and go into the second with some momentum, answered back with two goals of their own in the last minute of play.Â
The Gryphons continued to chip away at the Gaels lead scoring another two goals to open the second half. With the game tied at 19 minutes, the teams held each other without a goal for a good five minutes. A goal by Captain
Staci Morris put the Gryphons ahead and looking for the win. Strong midfield, solid defense and a patient game of possession kept the Gaels from scoring and clinched the win for the Gryphons.Â
Leading the scoring drive was Captain Stacey Pogue with four. Staci Morris and Jade Sullivan each contributed two while
Alyssa Nevills and Dana Skyvington earned one each.
