Jackie Sollis of West Vancouver, BC scored the overtime winner to lead the Gryphon women's hockey team over the Toronto Varsity Blues 3-2 today in Toronto.
Guelph once again dominated the majority of the play outshooting Toronto 37-19.
Katie Mora (Guelph, Ont.) started the scoring for Guelph in the first with assists going to Tamara Bell (Guelph, Ont.) and Erin Small (Pickering, Ont.). Kim Wong (Mississauga, Ont.) notched a power play marker with Jenna Lanzarotta (Guelph, Ont.) making the pass across the high slot. Toronto answered back with five minutes left in the second to leave the score 2-1 heading into the third.
Similar to the Gryphons game last night, it became a very physical with both teams battling hard. With just under five minutes left in third Small had a goal disallowed and this gave some momentum back to Toronto and they were able sneak past Guelph's defender on a breakaway and barely get it by goaltender Stephanie Nehring (Oshawa, Ont.). Guelph would continue to press getting quite a few chances near the end of the game, but couldn't put it away.
Only 47 seconds in overtime Small rushed the puck getting a quick shot away and rushing defense man Jackie Sollis was able to bury her rebound. Jackie Sollis was awarded player of the game. Erin Small reached a huge milestone notching her 100th career point with her first assist of game. Â
The Gryphons remain on the road heading to St.Catharine's next week on Thursday, October 27 for a game against the Brock Badgers at 7:15 p.m.
