The men's basketball team earned a much-needed 78-69 victory over the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton.
The win kept the Gryphons playoff hopes alive as they move to 6-10 on the season.
Guelph led the entirety of the second half, though the Marauders fought back to within a three-point margin on several occasions. But Guelph's sharp shooting in the final quarter proved to be too strong.
Dan McCarthy (Guelph, Ont.) scored a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds, despite fouling out mid-way through the fourth quarter. Michael Petrella (Brantford, Ont.) and Kevin Cameron (Guelph, Ont.) had 15 apiece and Jerald Greenidge (Brampton, Ont.) netted 11.
The Gryphons move to 6-10 on the season and sit at the bottom of the OUA West, but are only two points away from a sixth place playoff spot.
Guelph hits the road for a pair of games this week against Windsor on Wednesday and Western on Saturday.
