The Guelph Gryphon women's basketball team defeated the visiting Waterloo Warriors 73-52 tonight at the W.F. Mitchell Centre.

After suffering their first home loss of the season earlier in the week, the Gryphon's were not interested in dropping another. A great defensive effort along with double-doubles by Jasmine Douglas (Guelph, Ont.) and Ali Dzikowski (Brantford, Ont.) made sure the losing streak was short lived.

The Gryphon's pushed their record to 7-4. With the loss, the young Warriors squad drop to a woeful 0-11.

The Gryphon's were led by Douglas's 17 points and 17 rebounds, while Dzikowski also had 17 points to go along with her 10 boards and five assists. Not to be outdone, Alex Yallin also had 17 points while also dishing out five assists.

The Warriors were led by Erin Tilley's 14 points, while Saraya Hickey and Tori Lee both chipped in with eight. As a team, the Warriors committed 21 turnovers, showing the growing pains that have been surely plaguing them all season.

The Gryphon's showed their experience all game as they held the Warriors to 31% shooting for the game. Guelph meanwhile displayed their three point shooting by nailing 8-21 from range.

Guelph will look to maintain their home success when they host the visiting Western Mustangs Saturday, January 15 at the W.F. Mitchell Centre. Tipoff is scheduled for 1pm.
