Nov. 26: Guelph 68 – Laurentian 59
GUELPH, Ont. – Friday night the Guelph Gryphon's defence held the Laurentian Voyageurs to only one field goal in the final quarter to triumph 68-59, staying a perfect 3-0 at home.
The Gryphon defence was key in coming back in the fourth, after trailing most of the game.
The Gryphons move to 4-3 in the regular season.
Samantha Russell (Paradise Valley, AZ) led the Gryphons with 19 points along with 11 rebounds, for another double-double. Jasmine Douglas (Guelph, Ont.) chipped in with 12 points, eight rebounds, and six blocks. Ali Dzikowski (Brantford, Ont.) added 10.
The Gryphon's used a tenacious defence to force the Voyageurs to commit a number of unforced turnovers. Only two Laurentian players were able to net more than five points, a tribute to Guelph's collective team defence.
Leading the Voyageurs was Katie Goggings, who scored a came high 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds. She also committed a game high five turnovers. Lisa Furchner added 18 in the losing effort.
Up next for the Gryphon's is a matchup against the visiting York Lions Saturday night at the W.F. Mitchell Centre. Tipoff is scheduled for 6pm.
