The Gryphon men's soccer team finally earned their first win of the season with a 4-2 victory over UOIT tonight in Oshawa. The Gryphons advance to 1-7-2 on the season.
The Gryphons came out flying with two goals in the opening eight minutes from striker Robbie Murphy (Ottawa), however some sloppy Guelph play mid way through the first half allowed UOIT back in the game with goals in the 24 and 39th minute.
Second-year forward Jacob Stolle came off the bench to score his first ever Gryphon goal and what turned out to be the game winner on 45 minutes. Guelph dominated the second half and created numerous scoring opportunities however it was first-year player Dena Iezady who finally put the game out of reach in the 83rd minute, this was his first goal from his midfield position.
The Gryphons out-shot UOIT 27 to 10 in the game.
Guelph returns to action this Saturday (Oct. 9) when they travel to McMaster for a 3:15 pm kick off.
