The Guelph Gryphons women's soccer dropped a 2-1 game this afternoon at Alumni Stadium to the Brock Badgers.
Guelph's striker Jenny Dunn (Vancouver, BC) scored the initial goal, but the Badgers took advantage after two consecutive goals by Brock's top scorer Larissa Bruzzese (Welland, ON).Â
This brings the Gryphons to a 1-5-3 standing while Brock adds a win and goes home with 3-5-1.
The first half opened up in the Gryphons favour after Dunn scored their first goal only six minutes into the game. She ripped it into the corner after a close scrimmage outside of the Badger's net and their goal-keep Syreeta Rhoden (Niagara Falls, ON) couldn't reach it in time.
Brock rebounded 20 minutes later with a goal by Bruzzese that was shot from the far left end, and fired high into the back of the net. Gryphon goal-keep Harriet Melvin (Rivers, MB) didn't have a chance to stop it. The situation for the Gryphons got worse still, only minutes after Brock's first goal, when Guelph's defence broke down outside their net and Bruzzese sneaked in a shot off the corner.
The second half was uneventful with only one official shot on net by both teams. Guelph's defence seemed to pull themselves together, putting less pressure on Melvin. The Gryphons tried to even up the scores but were unable to do so. The game finished 2-1 for the Badgers.
The Gryphons next play the McMaster Marauders on October 9
th in Hamilton. The game begins at 1pm.
