Gryphons start fast to beat Badgers 2-1

The Gryphon men's soccer team won their third game in a row this afternoon, defeating the Brock Badgers 2-1 in St. Catharine's.  The Gryphon record advances to 4-8-2 on the season with two games left in the regular season schedule.

The game was hindered by a strong wind that made it very difficult to play however two first half goals by Guelph gave the Gryphons the half time lead.

Both Gryphon goals resulted from corner kicks. The first goal came in the 29th minute when a deflected ball fell at the feet of defender Dave Canavan (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who found the back of the goal.  Three minutes later rookie Dena Iezady (Richmond Hill, Ont.) came streaking into the box on the corner kick and buried a beautiful header, this was Iezady fourth goal of the season.

Looking to get back in the game, Brock pulled a goal back from Eric Van Wissen, just four minutes in the second half but the Gryphons held on for a well deserved win.

The Gryphons are still alive in the OUA West play-off.  Up next, the Gryphons face the league leading York Lions (11-2-1) on Saturday (Oct. 23) at 3:15 p.m. and then host the UOIT Ridgebacks at home on Sunday (Oct. 24) at 3:15p.m.
