Gryphons earn seven OUA All-Stars

Ontario University Athletics (OUA) released its 2009 football all-stars today (Nov. 10). Seven different Guelph Gryphons earned the provincial award including Ryan Bomben (Burlington, Ont.), Nick Fitzgibbon (Puslinch, Ont.), Rob Maver (Brampton, Ont.) and James Savoie (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who were all named to the first team, while Jedd Gardner (Niagara Falls, Ont.), Grant MacDonald (London, Ont.) and Adam Dunk (Guelph, Ont.) were named to the second team.

Guelph received seven all-stars last season as well. This year it was Laurier who led the list with a total of 11-allstars.

The Gryphons had four offensive all-stars and three on the defensive side of the ball.

On offence, fourth-year running back Nick Fitzgibbon picked up his 3rd all-star award. He led the Gryphons in scoring with 14 touchdowns and a total of 84 points. He finished with a total of 752 yards in rushing. Fourth year offensive tackle Ryan Bomben earns his first all-star award after playing in six games this season and was a standout player on the offensive line. Meanwhile, kicker / punter Rob Maver finished the season leading the OUA with a 92.9 percent accuracy in field goals (13-for-14) as well as a league-leading 41.3 yard average in punts. This was Mavers second straight season on the list.

Fourth year linebacker Adam Dunk earned the all-star award after finishing second on the team with 59 total tackles.
