Fifth year team captain Courtney Whiteside is coming off an incredible week which was highlighted by one of the greatest goals of her career. On Tuesday, September 22 against the No. 4-ranked Laurier Golden Hawks, Whiteside scored one of the goals of the year while showcasing some brilliant skill and technique. With her back to goal, Courtney took one touch with her knee to set up a stunning half volley that soared into the net to draw the Gryphons level with the undefeated Golden Hawks.

Although Guelph would end up on the wrong end of a 2-1 score line versus Laurier, Whiteside would continue her strong play on the weekend in a pair of games in Sault Ste. Marie against Algoma. On Saturday, Whiteside led the way for the Gryphons with a hat trick in the team’s 8-1 win over the Thunderbirds. On Sunday afternoon, the Guelph native capped a tremendous week by once again finding the back of the net in the team’s 5-0 victory. Five goals in three matches, including a sensational strike versus one of the top teams in the country was more than enough to earn Gryphon Athlete of the Week honours for Courtney.
