Guelph native Elvir Uzunovic took home the gold medal while competing in the 61-kilogram weight class. With four other men in his weight class, Elvir came out on top of the round robin format in convincing fashion as he won all of his matches within the first round of wrestling. Three of his opponents lost by Elvir's technical seniority, which meant he score 10-0 on those three opponents (note: a ten-point spread in wrestling is an automatic win). His other match also ended within the first round, thanks to a successful pin by Elvir. Uzunovic beat out opponents from York, Western, Brock and U of T to earn the first place finish. Elvir, works exceptionally hard at practice and possesses tremendous handwork, both of which were on full display this past weekend at the York Open.
