Megan Lowry, Women’s Rugby
Megan Lowry from Barrie, Ont, is this week’s Gryphon female athlete of the week after leading her team to a national silver medal at the CIS Championships hosted this past week at Laval. The fifth-year was named player of the game in the Gryphons 29-10 loss to Alberta in the championship final. She played 80 minutes of all the Gryphons three games and was dynamic and opposing threat in each. The final game, however she was exceptional. Coming up against a pack that were used to pushing people around, Lowry held fast and often got the nudge against her opposite, allowing Guelph to win their own ball on set piece. With the ball in her hands, Lowry trampled the defensive Pandas with her fending abilities and strong leg drive. She put in several devastating tackles against the Pandas to shut down their attack.
It was a dominant performance at Nationals for the graduating senior who was not only named player of the game in the toughest game in the tournament but was also selected to the CIS tournament all-star team.
