Fourth year Shannon Spurrell (Hayley Station, Ont.) is the Gryphon female athlete of the week. The inside center has been a consistent and dominating force for the Gryphon women's rugby team this season and continued on her streak in the semi-final victory over McMaster on Saturday. The Arts student scored three points in the first 15 minutes of the game with a penalty goal. Then with some dominating tackles and turnover ball, she continued to put pressure on the Marauder attackers. 

Spurrell converted teammate Daria Keane's try to give the Gryphons a 10-0 lead at half. In the second half, Guelph continued to put McMaster under pressure and it was Spurrell who finally was able to touch down for the second try of the match in messy and rainy conditions. She converted her own try and then added another penalty goal for a total and high of 15 points on the day. 

The Gryphons now host the OUA Championship finals this Saturday against Queens at 1:00 p.m. at Varsity Field
