GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2026-27 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series.
Olivia Rizakos (women's soccer) and
Ambrose Tinmouth (men's soccer) are the recipients of the first 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' for the new season for the period covering August 24 to 30, 2026.
Olivia Rizakos (Women's Soccer)
Olivia Rizakos (Toronto, ON) didn't miss a beat and continued right where she left off from last season's extraordinary season for the Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team, earning this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' honours. The reigning OUA Player of the Year and U SPORTS Women's Soccer Player of the Year scored a first half hat trick in her team's 9-0 home win in their season opener against Algoma on Saturday night (Aug. 29). The forward and team captain in her 45 minutes of action, registered a team-high 6 shots on target. Rizakos, currently studying her master's in psychology, was the top scorer in the entire country in 2025 with 20 points, leading the OUA with 9 assists while ranking 2nd in the conference with 11 goals. Rizakos and rest of the Gryphons women's soccer team will head out to London for their first road action of the season when they take on the Western Mustangs on Friday afternoon (Sept. 4).
Ambrose Tinmouth (Men's Soccer)
This week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' is
Ambrose Tinmouth of the Gryphons men's soccer team. Tinmouth, a fifth-year forward was influential in his team's 5-1 home win in their season opening match on Saturday night (Aug. 29) against the Algoma Thunderbirds. The management economics and finance major from Comox, BC had a hand in four of his team's 5 goals in the win, scoring twice and assisting on a pair of goals from
Jahmal Boursiquot. Tinmouth played the full 90 minutes and had a game-high 10 shots and 7 shots on target.
Ambrose Tinmouth and the rest of the Gryphons men's soccer team will head to London for their first road game of the season when they take on the Western Mustangs on Friday afternoon (Sept. 4).
