GUELPH, Ont. - On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) released the 2026-27 men's and women's hockey schedules. The Guelph Gryphons men's and women's varsity hockey teams will begin regular season play in early October, with regular season play wrapping up on February 20, 2027. On the women's side, the defending OUA champion Gryphons will once again play a 26-game regular season schedule, while the Gryphons men's hockey team will play a 28-game regular season schedule.
On the men's side, the Gryphons will open the new season on home ice on Friday, October 9, 2026 versus the TMU Bold, with five of the Gryphons men's hockey team's first seven games of the regular season taking place at the Gryphon Centre Arena. The U of G men's hockey team is coming off of a strong season a year ago, with the team returning to the OUA playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 season and winning an opening round playoff series over the Laurier Golden Hawks. On the women's side, the reigning OUA champion Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team will officially begin their title defence on the road in the nation's capital. First up for the Gryphon women is a McCaw Cup re-match as they face the Ottawa Gee-Gees in Ottawa on Friday night (Oct. 16) followed by a Saturday night (Oct. 17) road game at Carleton. The defending champion Gryphons will then return to home ice on Friday, October 23, 2026 for their home opener when they host the Queen's Gaels.
The Gryphons have been crowned OUA champions a total of 15 times, seven on the men's side (most recently capturing the Queen's Cup in 2019-20) and eight on the women's (most recently in 2025-26). The Gryphons have also been crowned national champions in hockey on two occasions, with the women's team winning a U SPORTS Championship in 2018-19, while the lone national title on the men's side came during the 1996-97 season. This season's national championship tournaments will take place in Fredericton, New Brunswick on the women's side and in Trois-Rivières, Québec on the men's side, with both national championship events taking place March 25-28, 2027.
