GUELPH, Ont. – On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) released the 2026-27 schedules for men's and women's basketball. The Guelph Gryphons women's and men's varsity basketball teams will officially tip off a new season on Friday, October 23, 2026 with the Windsor Lancers set to visit the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre for the regular season opener. It is part of back-to-back home games to open the new season for the Gryphons, who will also play host to the Western Mustangs the following night (Saturday, October 24).
The Gryphons men's and women's basketball teams will play a 22-game regular season schedule, with the opening round of the 2026-27 OUA basketball playoffs set to begin February 17, 2027. The 2026-27 OUA basketball season will culminate on Saturday, March 6, 2027 with the playing of the OUA's Critelli Cup (women's OUA title game) and Wilson Cup (men's OUA title game). 18 universities from across Ontario will be vying for a spot at nationals, with the U SPORTS Final 8 Championship set to take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on both the men's and women's sides, from March 11-14, 2027.
The Gryphons women's basketball team has been a model of consistency and success in recent years, with the team reaching the OUA quarterfinal stage five seasons in a row. On the men's side, the Gryphons return their entire roster from a memorable 2025-26 campaign, where the Gryphons earned home-court advantage for the opening round of the playoffs and defeated the Windsor Lancers before falling just short in overtime in the OUA quarterfinals against the eventual OUA champion TMU Bold.
Tickets for the Gryphons men's and women's basketball season will be available for purchase online at gryphons.ca/tickets, with current University of Guelph students getting in free to all regular season home games when securing their ticket online at gryphons.ca/tickets.
