GUELPH, Ont. - A total of seven Gryphon varsity teams are featured in the latest edition of the 'Gryphon Weekend Wrap' for the period covering January 5 to 7, 2024.

One of the seven teams in action this past weekend was the Gryphons track & field team which sent eight student-athletes to Toronto for the U of T Sharon Anderson Memorial Meet. Of the eight student-athletes in attendance all eight were competing in the pole vault events. On the women's side, 2022-23 U SPORTS gold medalist
Jennifer Elizarov led the way with jump of 4.00m to finish 3rd overall but highest among collegiate competition.
Monica Grigore was the only other Gryphon to finish within the Top 10, finishing 8th with a jump of 3.55m.
Sage Stoyka Kay (3.20m),
Sophia McDonald (3.20m),
Erica Gibson (3.20m), and
Rachel Gibson (3.00m) rounded out the group of Gryphon women. On the men's side,
Mason Harris led the way with tie for 6th place and a jump of 4.15m while
Spencer Beaubien jumped 4.00m to finish in a tie for 9th position.Â
Also in action this weekend was the Gryphon volleyball teams who took on the York Lions Friday night in Toronto. Both teams captured five set victories to improve to 7-2 (W) and 9-2 (M) and move up in the OUA standings. The U of G men currently sit atop the conference standings while the Gryphon women are in a tie for 4th-place with the Queen's Gaels (7-1).Â
Also on the court this weekend was the U of G basketball teams who hosted the Windsor Lancer. The Gryphon women carried an early first quarter lead to a 7-point victory while the men's team saw a dominant first half lead them to a 21-point win.
On the ice, the U SPORTS No. 6-ranked Gryphon women's hockey team continued their sensational season by adding a pair of wins against the Queen's Gaels and Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and now lead the OUA West by 13 points. On the men's side the Gryphons defeated the York Lions in a shootout Friday night before falling to the Brock Badgers Saturday afternoon in St. Catharines.
