BURLINGTON, Ont. - When discussing the best linebackers in the conference,
Luke Korol has made sure his name is part of the conversation. On Tuesday afternoon, Ontario University Athletics announced the "Football Players of the Week" with the Gryphons' fifth-year leader receiving some much-deserved recognition at the conference level. Korol was named the OUA's Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance versus the Windsor Lancers on Saturday (Sept. 15).
Week 4 OUA Players of the Week
Offence: Tre Ford (QB, Waterloo)
Defence: Luke Korol (LB, Guelph)
Special Teams: Michael Domagala (K, Carleton)
Korol racked up a season-high 16.5 tackles while helping the No. 10-ranked Gryphons earn a 26-20 road win over the Lancers.
The Dundas, Ontario native helped seal the win, by recording his second sack of the game on Windsor's final possession, earning the Gryphons their second win of the season. Korol's outstanding 2018 campaign has him leading the conference in tackles per game (9.6) while serving as the central figure in the second-ranked defence in the OUA, limiting opponents to just 16.5 points per game.
Korol becomes the second Gryphon to garner OUA Player of the Week honours in 2018 after
Gabe Ferraro did so in Week 2.
Korol and the Gryphons are now preparing for a homecoming clash with the Queen's Gaels on Saturday.
