Gryphon running back, Isaiah Smith was the first U of G selection, with the 2022 OUA Rookie of the Year heading to the Toronto Argonauts in Round 2, 11th overall. Defensive back Devynn Cromwell, who played two seasons with the Gryphons (2022 & 2023) before transferring to the NCAA to suit up with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Michigan State Spartans, was selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 3rd round. While rounding out the U of G selections was Gryphon offensive lineman Mitchel Schechinger who was taken by the Calgary Stampeders in Round 6. Due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosting games at BMO Field, a unique 2026 CFL season lies ahead for the Toronto Argonauts, who will play their first seven games of the regular season on the road, with three "home games" taking place in Saskatchewan (Week 4),  in Winnipeg (Week 6), and in Hamilton (Week 7). During the first few months of the 2026 CFL season, the University of Guelph will serve as the Toronto Argonauts headquarters in terms of team practices and meetings, with the Argos set to arrive in Guelph on May 1 and stay through to August 4. Although the University of Guelph's Alumni Stadium will not host any regular season games, it will once again serve as the host venue for a CFL preseason game, with the Argos and Hamilton Tiger-Cats set to kickoff on Friday, May 29 at 7pm in Guelph.
