OAKVILLE, Ont. – For just the 10th time in University of Guelph history, a Guelph Gryphon student-athlete has been named 'OUA Athlete of the Year.' Olivia Rizakos, a standout forward on the Gryphons women's soccer team, has been named Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women's Athlete of the Year for the 2025-26 season, with TMU Bold basketball player Aaron Rhooms taking home Athlete of the Year honours on the men's side. The conference-wide award was announced on Wednesday evening (May 13, 2026) at the OUA's year-end 'Honour Awards' banquet in Oakville. WATERLOO, Ont. – The best 107 Canadian university football players from across the country, who are eligible for the 2027 CFL Draft, gathered at the University of Waterloo for this year's edition of the U SPORTS East-West Bowl. The annual all-star game, which saw five University of Guelph student-athletes suiting up on Team West, took place on Saturday, May 9 at the University of Waterloo's Warrior Field. GUELPH, Ont. – On Tuesday night (April 28, 2026), a total of three student-athletes from the University of Guelph football program were selected in the 2026 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft. Gryphon running back, Isaiah Smith was the first U of G selection, with the 2022 OUA Rookie of the Year heading to the Toronto Argonauts in Round 2, 11th overall. Defensive back Devynn Cromwell, who played two seasons with the Gryphons (2022 & 2023) before transferring to the NCAA to suit up with the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Michigan State Spartans, was selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 3rd round. While rounding out the U of G selections was Gryphon offensive lineman Mitchel Schechinger who was taken by the Calgary Stampeders in Round 6. GUELPH, Ont. – For a sixth consecutive season, the Toronto Argonauts will call the University of Guelph home for their training camp as well as a preseason matchup (Friday, May 29 – 7pm vs Hamilton), and it will be an extended stay on U of G campus for the Argos in this year. Due to the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosting games at BMO Field, a unique 2026 CFL season lies ahead for the Toronto Argonauts, who will play their first seven games of the regular season on the road, with three "home games" taking place in Saskatchewan (Week 4),  in Winnipeg (Week 6), and in Hamilton (Week 7). During the first few months of the 2026 CFL season, the University of Guelph will serve as the Toronto Argonauts headquarters in terms of team practices and meetings, with the Argos set to arrive in Guelph on May 1 and stay through to August 4. Although the University of Guelph's Alumni Stadium will not host any regular season games, it will once again serve as the host venue for a CFL preseason game, with the Argos and Hamilton Tiger-Cats set to kickoff on Friday, May 29 at 7pm in Guelph.
