TORONTO, Ont. - On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the U SPORTS office released its latest national rankings for the 2024-25 season. Four University of Guelph varsity teams headline the latest rankings with the Gryphon track and field team making their debut in the first track and field polls of the season, with the women entering the rankings at No. 2 and the men at No. 6. Track and Field – Women No. 2 and Men No. 6
The Gryphons track and field team makes their debut in the U SPORTS Top 10 with the women at No. 2 and the men at No. 6. This past weekend, the University of Guelph track and field program had their student-athletes represented at a pair of meets in Windsor and Ann Arbor, Michigan. In Windsor,
Travis Campbell (men's 60m), Gabby Cole (women's 60m),
Alanzo Ryan (men's 600m),
Max Davies (men's 1000m) all earned their automatic qualification to nationals along with the women's 4x200m and men's 4x800m relay teams. In Ann Arbor,
Nicole McKenzie also booked her spot at nationals in the women's 300m at the Wolverine Invitational and long jumper
Milenne Habash won her competition in the long jump. The Gryphons will be sending athletes south of the border to Ithica, New York for the Cornell Upstate Challenge on Saturday (Jan. 18).
Women's Basketball – No. 9

The Gryphons women's basketball team remain at No. 9 in the latest U SPORTS Top 10 after winning both of their games to open up the new year. On Wednesday night (Jan. 8), the team got a huge three from
Hannah Bourdon late in the fourth quarter to put them ahead 73-70 as their defence did the rest to close out the win against the McMaster Marauders. The Gryphon defence was the star of the show on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 11) when the team made to the trip to Waterloo to battle the Warriors. Guelph held Waterloo to 28.3% shooting and 2-15 from three as they saw four players finish in double-digits with
Hannah Bourdon and
Alexis Wright leading all scorers with 16 points in their 71-53 win. The Gryphons currently lead the OUA West division with a 10-3 record. Next up, two pivotal road games when they travel to London on Friday night (Jan. 17) to take on the Western Mustangs before heading down to Windsor for a Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 18) matchup with the Lancers.

Women's Hockey – No. 9
Â
Following their sweep in a home-and-home matchup with the Brock Badgers, the Gryphons women's hockey team continues to hold steady at No. 9 in the latest rankings. On Friday night (Jan. 10), Guelph got a impressive performance in goal from
Sophie Helfenstein as she made 24 saves in the shutout to lead her side to an 1-0 victory. In the rematch on Saturday night (Jan. 11), the team got a pair of second period goals from
Maeve Sutherland-Case which provided to be the difference in their 2-1 road win. The Gryphs currently sit in 2nd-place in the OUA West Division with an 11-4-1 (wins-losses-OTL/SOL) record. Next up, a pair of home games at the Gryphon Centre Arena starting on Friday night (Jan. 17) against the Windsor Lancers before the Queen's Gaels stop by for a visit on Saturday night (Jan. 18).
