University of Guelph Athletics

The 1980 University of Guelph Female Rookie of the Year led the Swimming Gryphons to a bronze medal finish at the OWIAA Championships that same year. In 1980 and 1981, she captured individual gold and silver medals at the OWIAA Championships and in 1980, a bronze in the 100m Freestyle at the CIAU Championships. Avril set school records in the 50m (27.67), 100m (1:00.13) and 200m (2:12.75) Freestyle events in 1981.
