UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH GRYPHONS FACILITIES
AQUATICS CENTRE
HISTORY
Funded by a student building fee, the 3.5 million dollar Gold pool, opened in 1992. Designed to be a length swim competition pool, the Gold pool has hosted OUA and CIS championships, numerous Guelph Marlin, District 10 and CWOSSA swim meets, as well as other community swim functions. Guelph Waterpolo Club, the Guelph Synchronized Swim Club and the provincial Triathlon Group use the Gold Pool as a training and competition site. Other programs, such as kayaking and underwater hockey, use this pool for training, lessons and competition. The Red pool was opened in 1957 when the W. F. Mitchell Athletic Centre was originally built. It is used for learn to swim programs for toddlers to adults with a fear of water. SCUBA is taught in the Red Pool because of its deep end.
The Gold Pool is home to the Gryphon Varsity Swimming Team
