GRYPHON ATHLETICS FACILITY UPDATES - May 24th, 2016

  • Siding has been installed on the north and west walls, all the siding has been delivered and installation will continue throughout the next five or six weeks.
  • The Event Centre gym floor has been poured and leveled, storage rooms and the enclosures for the seating are being blocked up now.
  • In the main change rooms; lighting, tile floors, and preparatory work for locker installation is happening now.
  • The primer coat of paint has been applied to most of the walls and ceiling. Aquicon is prepping the third floor spaces for cleanup in preparation for the hard wood floor installation slated to begin in June. The project is still slated for substantial completion in August.

Phase 2A Lite

  • TRP has been issued the contract and have begun work as evidenced by the fencing out front of the current Athletic Centre building.
  • Demolition is well underway. The climbing wall has been removed, the walls forming the women’s washroom, the men’s basketball, volleyball and soccer team rooms have been removed as well as all the lockers in the south end of the former men’s main floor change room.
  • Work has begun on the removal of the stair case between the wrestling room and the cardio room. The plan is to have the south staircase removed by the beginning of next week.
  • TRP will be removing the brick work on the east wall of the existing building in the next week or two in cooperation with Aquicon.
  • The Marcom group, will have to move out of their offices for a period of time when the exterior wall is removed to form the new entrance. Good news is when they return to their offices they will have floor to ceiling windows.
  • Work on the corridor between the main and small gyms is on hold at the moment while the structural engineer assesses the structure uncovered when the wood was removed.
  • As part of the long term plan we will being doing our best to create a viable work space for the Fit Rec staff in the open space created by removing the lockers in the south half of the former men’s main floor change room.
  • We will also be creating work spaces in Room 210 for occupancy this fall.

Red Pool Small Gym Wall

The steel has all been installed and the mason will begin patching the Red Pool wall this week. Acapulco Pools will be on site this week to remove the two under water windows in the Red Pool and fill in the openings and tile the space. This will solve leakage problems we have been having with the two windows.

Arena Doors and Natural Gas Filling Station

  • The new sliding door system is functioning.
  • The natural gas filling station project has begun and is nearing completion.

Alumni Stadium Football Pavilion

Harbridge and Cross have begun work inside the building and earth works have begun with the site cleared now. Storm sewers piping has arrived and installation will begin this week. The interior demolition of the north section of the building has been completed and the new structure supports are being fabricated now.
